How to Emcee a Talent ShowIn Feburary 2016 14,

In Feburary 2016 14,
Do your preparation. If there are announcements to be made before the show, familiarize yourself with the list so that you can briefly reel them off before the show instead of reading and sounding like a robot. If you don't know the acts, ask them to give you a maximum of three things that you can use for their introductions. Find out if they'll allow you to spice up the intros with funny anecdotes they might reveal about themselves. Be sure you know the proper pronunciation of the act names and that your own material is memorized so that you can really sell it and keep the energy up.
Take a cue from Hugh Jackman at the Oscars and open the show with your own showstopping number. If you are sure your number will be fantastic then go for it! This will set a positive tone for the night and put the audience in a fabulous mood, making them more receptive to the rest of the acts,
Segue from the thunderous applause of your opening number to the introduction of your first act. If you are naturally funny then be funny, if no--no worries, just be yourself. Things are bound to come up that are funny anyway. Try to personalize your jokes without insulting anyone. This will ensure that those in the crowd who know the performers will feel included and will enhance their enjoyment of the show because they will feel 'in on' the joke.
Be prepared to fill time. A performer may not make a costume change, or simply get stage fright. In any case, use the time to interact with the audience. Knowing the crowd will help. If all else fails, ask if anyone is celebrating an anniversary. Congratulate the couple, and segue into finding the couple who has been married the longest. Ask them for advice, or make your own jokes about marriage. You can also use these bits if a performer has frozen on stage.
Seize opportunities for humor. Every live show inadvertently has unexpected moments, most of which can be used for improvised jokes if you pay attention. A baby in the audience that will not stop crying, or an extremely loud ambulance heard echoing throughout the theater, even an audience member getting up to use the bathroom while you are emceeing are all gifts. Use them for fodder and stay alert!
Have fun and stay calm. Breathe and just remember if you are having fun, the audience will be having fun. Your mood will be contagious. Remember too that when things go wrong, they are not really going wrong, they are providing you with funny material! With that mindset you should have no worries. Keep loose!

How to Estimate a Spaghetti Dinner FundraiserIn Feburary 2016 11,

In Feburary 2016 11,
Set a fundraising goal. Whether the event is for charity or to raise money for new team uniforms, you need to have an idea of your fundraising objective. Set a realistic, achievable goal. Make sure that the goal is flexible because you might have to amend the number once you figure out how much supplies cost.
Select a venue. To maximize profits, try to pick a place that is free of charge. Check with your local church or school to see if you can use a spare room or cafeteria. If it's a small fundraiser, you can possibly use someone's house. For venues that charge, ask when payment is due. If you have to put down a nonrefundable deposit to secure the space, you must be comfortable taking a financial risk in the event you do not sell enough tickets.
Estimate attendance. Once your venue is chosen, you will have a clearer picture of how many tickets you can sell. Figure out how many people can comfortably sit and eat in the space. Do not plan on overbooking to make extra money.
Price supplies. For the menu, plan on serving a simple salad, garlic bread and spaghetti with or without meat. For the pasta, plan on the typical serving of 4 oz. per person, or 1 lb. per four people. One jar of sauce is generally needed for every pound of pasta. Plan on 1 cup of salad and two slices of bread per person. For drinks, you can serve water, iced tea or soda. To be safe, plan on everyone drinking at least two servings, or 16 oz.
Calculate cost. Once you have priced how much it will cost to feed your estimated number of guests, add any applicable venue fees. Add this total cost to your fundraising goal and then divide by the number of guests. This will be your ticket price. If the ticket price seems unreasonably high, then you can buy cheaper brands of food, select another venue or amend your goal.

How to Determine If a Maintenance Free Car Battery Is BadIn Feburary 2016 09,

In Feburary 2016 09,
Open the hood of the car and remove the battery cables with a wrench. Remove the positive (+) red cable first then the negative (-) black cable. Lift the battery out of its tray and place it on a work bench.
Put on safety glasses and rubber gloves. Clean the battery posts by placing a battery post cleaner on each battery post then twisting it back and forth until the posts are clean and bright.
Connect a load tester to the battery's positive terminal first then to the negative post. The positive post is the larger of the two and will be marked with a plus (+). Connecting the positive terminal first will prevent sparking. Switch the load tester to 'TEST' and check to see that the arrow on the meter does not drop below 12 volts. If it does or if it drops to the bottom of the scale and fails to come back up, the battery cannot be saved and must be replaced. If it reads 12 volts, it can be reconditioned.
